Insurance Defense/Medical Malpractice Paralegal

Requirements

  • 2-5 years’ experience as a defense litigation paralegal, medical malpractice preferred
  • Medical experience a plus
  • Trial experience a plus
  • Superior computer skills, using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using a legal time and billing system
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and accommodate rush requests
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a team player, willing to help other team members during peak times

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Trial preparation, including electronic presentations, coordination of witnesses, management of trial exhibits
  • Assist with retaining expert witnesses including preparation of records for review, supplementing materials throughout case, and assist with trial preparation and appearance.
  • Search information from court-related databases as well as other online sources of case information.
  • Summarize transcripts, assemble chronologies of pertinent facts and key documents.
  • Review, analyze, and organize document productions.
  • Conduct investigative research on opposing parties and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare letters, pleadings, and other documents from tapes, as well as edit, format, and proofread a variety of documents.
  • Schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings.
  • Produce legal documents such as subpoenas, motions, notices, and certificates of service.
  • Maintain calendars to track deadlines and statuses of cases; coordinate and schedule meetings, depositions, and conference calls.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, experts, outside counsel, and court personnel.
