A trademark or service mark is a word, name, symbol, or device used to identify and distinguish your products or services from those provided by another source. The rights in a trademark or service mark are created by its proper use in commerce. Although a mark can be registered under state law, it can also receive federal protection through registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
