Employment Review Magazine, Eighth Annual Index, August 2002: Huntsville ranks third in National Best Places to Live and Work list. This national publication bases its list on community economics, substantial job growth, good schools, recreation, and cultural events, along with other factors. Huntsville was described as a “highly prosperous city” with affordability being cited as the key. The city was also credited with maintaining “a stable economy during unstable times” and being “a leader in technological advancement.” Also placing Huntsville high on the list is the very favorable cost-of-living index that puts the region way ahead of the pack.
Sales & Marketing Management, 2002 Survey of Buying Power: The Huntsville metropolitan area leads all other major metro areas in Alabama in effective buying income. Published annually, the survey shows effective buying income as a measure of income and wages available for use after taxes and other payments such as Social Security. Huntsville’s metro area median household effective buying income of $40,152 was the highest in the state and seventh in the South.

Site Selection Magazine, July 2001: Huntsville is named as one of the top five high-technology U.S. markets to watch.
Expansion Management Magazine, January 2001: Huntsville ranks third among the nation’s high-technology leaders for percentage of new technology jobs created.
Huntsville Times, September 22, 2002: Cummins Research Park in Huntsville is the second-largest research park in the United States, behind Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. Over 22,000 people are employed in the park.
